The beginning

How it started

Back in 2018, we set off on an adventure to the Sahara Desert in a bus we’d built ourselves. We named her Karen the Convoy, and somewhere between Amsterdam, Belgium, Paris, Madrid and a lot of other memorable stops, it became clear that this was more than just a one-off trip. We shared the journey on Instagram, people followed along to see whether Karen would actually make it to Africa, and somehow that little adventure became the beginning of Karen & Co.

She made it, by the way.

After two weeks on the road and one very successful trip to Africa, we brought Karen home and got straight back to work building more campervans for other people to enjoy. What began as one much-loved bus has grown into a full fleet of quirky, self-built campers, all ready to help more people head off on adventures of their own.

Since Karen first hit the road, the fleet has grown a fair bit.

From Karen, Kevin and Kenny to Keith, Kimberly, Karl, Kona, Ken, Kit, Klaudia, Kirby, Kirk, Kitty, Keeva, Kodi and Kerry, every van has its own personality, its own story, and its own little place in the Karen & Co. crew. Some are cosy two-berths, some are made for bigger group trips, and some have become favourites for everything from coastal weekends to full-on Irish road trip adventures.

We’ve always liked giving each van a bit of character, because that’s what Karen & Co. has always been about. They’re built to be memorable, practical, and a little bit different from the ordinary.

From the start, the heart of Karen & Co. has been building campervans with real care, creativity and personality.

What makes it special to us is that it all grew from something hands-on. We started by building our own, learning as we went, and turning ideas into campers others could enjoy. We love creating vans that feel warm, fun and thoughtfully put together, whether you're booking a simple weekend away or planning a bigger trip around Ireland.

Over the years, that passion for building has grown beyond rental too, with custom conversion work becoming part of the story as well. For us, it's always been about more than just adding another van to the fleet. It's about making something with personality that people will truly enjoy being part of.

Over the years, hundreds of travellers have explored Ireland in our vans, covering thousands of miles, bringing dogs along for the ride, getting engaged, making memories and seeing the country in a completely different way.

That's the part we love most.

Karen & Co. has never been just about hiring out campervans. It's about helping people slow down, head off, and do something a bit different. It's about road trips, good views, spontaneous stops, camp chairs out in the evening, and waking up somewhere with the sense of freedom that a campervan gives you.

Everything we do is still rooted in that same spirit we started with — a love of adventure, a love of building things, and a belief that travel should feel personal, exciting and full of character. And we're still building. Still dreaming up new campers. Still giving them names. And still helping people get out there and make their own memories.
